YOU DON'T WATCH T.V.?!!
No. We don't watch t.v. That's not to say we don't own a t.v. We do. We just don't watch regular network television. And I'm waaaaay too cheap to pay for cable!! Never have. Never will. The only thing our television is hooked up to is our DVD player. I think it's been around 8 years since we've watched a regular t.v. program in our house. I'm not exactly sure how long it's been. It wasn't really a momentous occasion when we decided to stop. Our old television quit working, and by the time we got another "talking box" in our house, we had gained a whole new perspective. We decided no more network t.v. We would only watch videos (this was 8 years ago after all!). Fast forward to 2011. We are now the owners of a quite exstensive DVD collection.
What does this have to do with The Radical Experiment you ask?
Well, The Radical Experiment is a year-long commitment to five specific challenges:
In his book "Radical", Dr. David Platt tells us, "I don't always think of myself as rich, and I'm guessing you may not think of your self as rich either. But the reality is, if you and I have running water, shelter over our heads, clothes to wear, food to eat, and some means of transportation (even if it is public transportation), then we are in the top 15 percent of the world's people for wealth." Did you catch that? Notice what he did NOT say. He did not say you are rich if you drive a BMW. Or you are rich if your house is over 2,000 sq ft. Or you are rich if you eat out at restuarants more than three times a week. You are rich if you have water, shelter, clothes, food, and transportation. If you are reading this, chances are you are one of The World's Top 15% Richest People!! Wow!! And with all of my wealth, how am I helping the poor? Good question. It's one I've been asking myself since reading "Radical".
Which brings us back to the 12,000th viewing of Despicable Me. We are not even in our second month of our experiment and I'm already regretting this "sacificing of DVD's" idea. Seriously! How ridiculous is that?! Children are starving around the world EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. and I am not willing to give up a few $5 movies so they could possible be fed?! Well, yes I am willing, but I want to be willing with the right attitude. I want to be one of the cheerful givers that Paul talks about in 2 Corinthians 9:7, "Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver." I want to happily watch Despicable Me for the 13,000th time knowing that we were able to send money to Malawi to feed a family for a month. And then we will be able to experience 2 Corinthians 9:8-9, "And God is able to make all grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all you need, you will abound in every good work. As it is written:
He has scattered abroad his gifts to the poor;
his righteousness endures forever."
Thankful for His Grace,
Krystal

Well, The Radical Experiment is a year-long commitment to five specific challenges:
- To pray for the entire world
- To read through the entire Word
- To commit our lives to multiplying community
- To sacrifice our money for a specific purpose
- To give our time in another context
