Pass the Chipolte Mustard, PLEASE!

I grew up in a ketchup house.  We put ketchup on everything... hot dogs, hamburgers, tacos, burritos.  We didn't have BLT's.  We had BLK's.  We dipped our steak and pork chops in ketchup.  To this day, my mom adds ketchup to her spaghetti sauce!  There's an old joke that says, you can tell a Minnnesota Dutch person (my mom and dad are both MN Dutch) by the three spices in their cupboard... salt, pepper, and ketchup.  So imagine my surprise when I marry my Dutch (but non-MN) hubby and he requests that I buy mustard.  YUCK!  Who uses mustard?!!  Not me!!  I've never liked mustard.  I even used to try to wipe it off my McDonald's hamburger if my mom forgot to say "no mustard" to the kid behind the counter.

When I was a kid, thinking about the verse: "Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move." ~Matt. 17:20 NIV   I knew I would never have enough faith to move that mountain, because I didn't even like mustard!!!  But as we go through this year long journey of The Radical Experiment I realize that this is exactly what this entire year will be about for me... a year of faith.  One of my greatest strengths is also my greatest weakness... I am a pretty self-sufficient girl.  When something needs to be done, I'll see that it gets done.  But I realized before we even started on this journey, that God was calling me to put all my faith in Him, an all-knowing, all-loving God.  A year of depending on Him for everything.  And I need to remind myself of this every. single. day.  Like the day when our 18 year old washing machine decides to take a hiatus.  As Abraham said, "The Lord Will Provide".  I have faith that He is even in the business of providing washing machines!!

It's like my friends over at Proverbs 31 Ministries said today on their FB post: "It's not your job to move the mountain. It's GOD'S. Your job is to have faith."  And, you will be happy to know, I now can tolerate mustard.  A year and a half ago, a few friends and I particpated in our own version of "The Biggest Loser".  After reading a gazillion books on health, diet, and nutrition, I decided I was going to really go all out and try the healthier condiment, mustard.  Thankfully, one of my friends recommended a fabulous Chipolte Mustard which I now gladly put on my sandwhiches and burgers.  So pass the Chipolte Mustard!!  (And God, grant me the faith that I need to get my laundry done... please!!)
